Brazilian Amnesty Commission Makes Historic Visit to US Next Week

Posted by Rebecca Atencio

The Brazilian Amnesty Commission (Comissão de Anistia), which analyzes requests for reparations from individuals whose careers were adversely affected or who otherwise suffered economic hardship for political reasons during the military dictatorship, will make a historic visit to the United States next week, with stops at Brown and Columbia Universities. The visit follows similar trips to Europe (the UK, Germany, Spain, and Portugal) to promote its work and discussion about human rights, the Amnesty Law, transitional justice, and the legacies of authoritarianism in Brazil.
