A small bomb exploded yesterday in the downtown headquarters of the Order of Attorneys of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro (OAB-RJ) with no injuries. The former president of the OAB-RJ, Wadih Damous, said he has received a message claiming that the explosions were carried out by military reserve soldiers who were retaliating against his decision to take the position of president of the State Truth Commission of Rio de Janeiro. Damous was president of th OAB-RJ when the State Truth Commission was founded in October of last year, and he committed the OAB-RJ to supporting it in its endeavors.
Rio de Janeiro firefighters had received a bomb threat through their hotline claiming that three bombs would be detonated in the OAB building. The firefighters alerted the OAB, but the small explosion occurred before the building could be evacuated. For more information, click here.
