Monday, the 11th of June, marked the first meeting of the Truth Commission with the ex-political prisoners and the families of the missing and deceased from the dictatorship era. There were approximately 100 people present at the meeting that was held in São Paulo. The meeting clarified that the commission will focus predominately on the human rights violations committed by the military dictatorship rather than the crimes committed by the leftist resistance, despite previous statements that both sides would be evaluated.
Truth Commission coordinator Gilson Dipp told the families and those in attendance that this would be the first of a series of meetings. He also announced that a space had already been reserved as a headquarters for the commission at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Brasília and he has named nearly all 14 advisers who will be assisting in the investigation.
