Federal Public Ministry creates “Transitional Justice” working group

The Federal Public Ministry in Rio de Janeiro has created a working group called “Transitional Justice” to promote the investigation of “grave human rights violations committed during Brazil’s military dictatorship”–and the criminal prosecution of those responsible. The working group was formed based on the logic that public authorities that committed such violations acted as representatives of the State, not just the military. Any crimes perpetrated would fall under federal jurisdiction, hence the involvement of the Federal Public Ministry.
